Wepin: Growing with Partners and Shaping the Future of Web3

Hello, this is Minho Yoo, the developer of Wepin Wallet. I frequently speak about wallets in various venues, but this time, I wanted to take the opportunity to personally introduce Wepin Wallet, so we organized this event.

In the fall of 2022, we held our first meetup introducing Wepin Wallet in a small space. Two years later, we are here with our partners, which is truly meaningful for us.

Although this event is being promoted as "Wepin Partners Day," the actual theme is "Web Squared Web." As we learned in math, squaring the web and multiplying it results in Web3. Most of Wepin's partners are teams combining Web 2.0 experiences with Web3 value, making this title especially fitting. I hope this event continues in the future.

When Wepin began two years ago, we talked extensively about popularizing Web3. Back then, it was still the preparation stage, but now, the true journey of Web3 adoption has started. Today, through the stories of participating teams, we want to explore the current status and future direction of Web3.

In today’s presentation, as always, I would like to talk about the thoughts and considerations that have shaped Wepin’s development and share our plans for the future. Throughout the process of building Wepin, there are a few principles that I have always kept in mind. Among them, the most important is this: rather than focusing on expanding our imagination, it is far more crucial to effectively deliver what our partner teams genuinely need and find truly helpful.

To elaborate on this principle, our most important mission is to meet with each team directly, understand their goals, the challenges they face, and the support they need, and then reflect these insights in the development of Wepin.

To elaborate on this principle, our most important mission is to meet with each team directly, understand their goals, the challenges they face, and the support they need, and then reflect these insights in the development of Wepin.

In this context, all the features Wepin currently offers are not born from our imagination but are based on the real needs of our partners. Whether it’s selecting the necessary mainnet, deciding which social login options to integrate into their services, or developing widgets, features, or languages, we prioritize expanding through conversations with our partner teams rather than pre-developing functionalities. Furthermore, Wepin’s solution is designed not only for scalability but also with a structure and architecture that align our growth directly with the growth of our partners.

This philosophy is also reflected in our various activities. Whether it’s creating blog content that includes case studies, current trends, and stories from our partners, or organizing events like today’s to share the present and future of our partners, all of these efforts align with this direction. Everything Wepin is preparing for the future will continue to follow this same guiding principle.

Until now, Wepin has been positioned primarily as a WaaS (Wallet-as-a-Service) provider. However, we are now expanding beyond that to become a comprehensive all-round Web3 tool. All of these plans are driven by the shared goal of achieving joint growth with our partners.

In line with this direction, we aim to provide a comprehensive suite of Web3 tools to support service development and growth. Currently, we are focusing on two key challenges: first, how to enable seamless and rapid wallet integration during the service development phase; and second, how to accelerate growth after the service launch.

To fulfill our role as an all-round Web3 player, we have introduced the "Wepin Family." The first and most well-known member of this family is "Wepin Wallet-as-a-Service." This core product provides essential wallet addresses for end users in Web3 services.

While I’ve explained it countless times over the past year, to keep it brief, it’s a wallet solution characterized by social login and widgets. Although it already boasts a wide range of features, we acknowledge it’s not yet perfect, and we are continually enhancing it to meet evolving needs.

Today, I’d like to share a small glimpse of our roadmap. At its core, Wepin integrates through a widget-based approach that includes UI/UX elements and provides fundamental features such as token asset viewing, sending, and receiving. However, anyone who has used a wallet service knows that these basic functions alone are not enough.

From our experience operating D'Cent Hardware Wallet, a B2C wallet, we’ve realized that a far broader range of functionalities is required to meet user and service demands effectively.

To address these needs, we are introducing a new system called "Gadgets" within our widgets. For example, some services may require features like token bridging or swapping, and these functionalities need to be customized for each service. One service might need gas fee sponsorship, while another might only require specific token pairs. Through the Gadget System, these additional features can be customized and integrated seamlessly.

This approach allows developers to incorporate a wide range of wallet functionalities without the burden of implementing complex wallet features themselves. Every feature in this system is designed based on real needs expressed by the teams we work with. We are committed to continually refining and expanding these capabilities to meet evolving demands.

The second product I’d like to introduce is the Wepin Ops Wallet. If you’ve ever developed a Web3 service, you’ll know that in addition to user wallets, various wallets are required for service operations. For example, you might need a Paymaster signature wallet for gas fee sponsorship or an official wallet for deploying smart contracts.

Additionally, wallets are needed to distribute rewards to users in the form of tokens or NFTs, as well as to collect tokens submitted by users to the service. These wallets are designed not for end users but for service teams, forming the backbone of operations wallets, which support the smooth operation of Web3 services.

Each wallet has a specific purpose and use case, so it must be tailored to meet its intended function. For instance, some wallets might be used to automatically distribute rewards via API calls, while others may require restricted access through a console for security reasons. Additionally, multi-admin functionality is supported, allowing multiple team members to manage the wallet collaboratively.

This product has also been developed based on the needs of our partner teams, and we are committed to evolving it further through ongoing communication and collaboration with our partners.

The third product, DropLink, is designed to support the growth of Web3 services, distinguishing itself from Wepin Wallet-as-a-Service and Ops Wallet, which focus on service building. As the name suggests, DropLink is a solution for airdropping NFTs or fungible tokens.

Like other Wepin products, it reflects our partners' needs—specifically, the requirement for users to participate even if they don’t have a wallet. By leveraging Wepin's social login feature, DropLink is designed to help achieve practical goals such as increasing onboarding rates for Web3 services.

In practice, many teams have relied on manual processes, such as using Excel spreadsheets, to handle airdrops, or resorted to developers manually executing airdrops when they were busy. DropLink addresses these inefficiencies by incorporating features designed to streamline the process and maximize efficiency.

One of Wepin's defining features is that it operates as an embedded wallet within services. This means it can seamlessly integrate with various actions within a service, such as user sign-ups or onboarding completion after app installation. Each service has its own goals, and Wepin allows for the creation of customized quests and rewards tailored to these objectives.

While these features can often be implemented directly within an app or web service, Wepin provides a much smoother and more streamlined approach. From a user experience perspective, it is designed to be simple yet highly effective, enabling viral engagement. Our design incorporates our marketing expertise to deliver features that not only enhance usability but also drive meaningful outcomes for services.

The final product in the Wepin Family is Wepin Ads, a solution currently being developed with a long-term perspective. One of Web3's most powerful characteristics is its connectivity—the ability to link anything through openness. This very connectivity was a key driver behind the popularity of terms like "Money Lego" during the DeFi boom.

As a wallet service provider, Wepin aims to leverage this connectivity to facilitate and accelerate the growth of services, creating synergies that extend beyond individual ecosystems.

Simply put, Wepin Ads is an advertising marketplace designed to easily connect services around tokens. Through Wepin, we’ve identified numerous collaboration opportunities that could create synergies among the teams we’ve worked with. However, facilitating these partnerships manually has its limitations. Wepin Ads addresses this challenge by providing a solution to formalize and streamline these connections, enabling partners to generate meaningful synergies more effectively.

For example, a service might want to attract users who hold tokens from a specific service. Token ownership and usage of certain services are key indicators of a user's interests and preferences, making it possible to establish targeted connections based on this data.

When combined with DropLink, this targeting can significantly enhance the effectiveness of marketing efforts, as the accuracy of initial targeting greatly influences the viral impact. This approach is expected to enable more precise and impactful marketing strategies.

Wepin Ads operates on the concept of an advertising marketplace, a model that fits seamlessly within the Web3 ecosystem. Following Web3’s core principle of rewarding contributions, it enables a system where services can reward user transitions between platforms with credits or points.

For this advertising marketplace to function effectively, greater participation from teams is essential. Increased involvement will enhance the value of the solution and create a more robust ecosystem. We are actively preparing for this and look forward to onboarding more partners to bring this vision to life.

Over the past year, we have focused on WaaS (Wallet-as-a-Service), engaging with numerous teams. Moving forward, we aim to connect with even more teams through a broader range of products.

As I close today’s presentation, I’d like to share a few thoughts. This year, we concentrated on the Korean market. My hypothesis was that, given the high quality of service development in Korea, if we could meet the needs of teams here, our products would have strong competitiveness in the global market as well. Thankfully, the rigorous demands of our partners have helped our products evolve significantly.

After a year of focusing on the domestic market, it’s now time to prepare for global expansion. While this won’t happen overnight, as the CSO, I am actively working on strategies for global outreach. In particular, I am focusing on how we can create synergies with our partners who are also targeting the global market.

Of course, there are still many teams in the domestic market that we have yet to connect with, so we will continue our activities in Korea. Our approach to global expansion will be gradual and solid.

Two years ago, we marked the beginning of Wepin, and today, we’ve had the privilege of hosting an event with our domestic partners. In the future, we hope to welcome you to a global version of Wepin Partners Day.

Thank you for joining us today.
